A play can be anything, from realistic to fantastical, funny or tragic, or some compelling combination. What makes the difference is live actors on stage performing for a live audience. In this workshop, you will use short plays and excerpts as guides to creating a short play all your own.
Playwright-Instructor Lesley Scammell
was born and raised in England but has made the US home for many years. She received a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship for her first play,
Make Me an Angel. Her plays have been seen at Luna Stage, The Shooting Gallery, MCC Theatre and New Dramatists in New York, Show of Strength Theatre in Bristol, England, Blue Barn Theatre in Omaha and Circle Rep in Seattle. Her screenplay for the short film,
The German Lullaby, received Best Short film awards in the 2008 International Film Festival, England and the 2008 Reelheart International Film Festival, Toronto; among other accolades.
