Back on the Wagon!
OK. We know. We haven't sent you a newsletter in ages! We have tons of good reasons (excuses) for our lapse. We'd like to say it was because we were writing. And we were - really! But we were also running our Teen Summer Intensives, preparing for the fall session, which has just begun, and even taking a vacation. Yes, our entire staff took time off in late August which, honestly, was kind of amazing!

So, here we are with so much news to share that you might want to grab a fresh cup of coffee before you start. Here goes....
ON THE BLOG: Fear of Finishing
Speaking of getting back on the wagon, now that we're back in class and catching up with our students, we're seeing a lot of a literary syndrome we recognize all too well: the horrible fear of finishing. Trust us, it's a daunting task. But we believe in you! We know you can do it!

Michelle weighs in on this common literary malady that she has faced herself. Check it out on the latest post on The Writers Circle Blog.
We're really excited to share the fantastic writing of some unbelievably talented teens who spent a few weeks with us this summer.

Introducing The Writers Circle Journal, Summer Intensive 2017: Writing in the Chaos of the Crowd.

Here are works by teenagers ranging in age from 13-18, whose work will really blow your mind.

We had a fantastic summer running the Intensive for the fifth year in a row and the third year at Drew University. If you want a glimpse into the fun we had writing, adventuring to Ellis Island, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Thomas Edison's laboratory, working with fabulous author-instructors, and playing Frisbee (of course!), take a peek at our annual Summer Intensive Photo Essay.
COMMUNITY Publications and Literary Achievements

NEW PUBLICATIONS BY OUR AUTHOR-INSTRUCTORS

Lisa Romeo tells us that it's official! The University of Nevada Press will publish her memoir in May 2018. Though it will likely change, the tentative title is: Starting with Goodbye: A Daughter's Memoir of Love After Loss. This achievement has been years in coming, and - trust us! - well deserved.

Lisa’s started a series on her blog, following her memoir manuscript along the road to published book. Check it out: https://lisaromeo.blogspot.com/.

And, while she’s dealing with last minute revisions and marketing plans for her book, Lisa’s got a new published short work to share:
A Little Bit of Brevity by My Side - in Brevity, of course! And she was interviewed (along with a few others) for Shaping a Memoir from Essays published on True, the blog for the literary journal Proximity.

Ariel Bernstein is hosting a book launch party for her new picture book, I Have a Balloon, on Saturday, October 7 from 11am-1pm at Words Bookstore in Maplewood, NJ! There'll be a book reading & signings, balloon artist, & treats by the wonderful Sofia Avalos!

Good writing, everyone!
